RIT CIS Internship

Today, was the final day of my internship. This was a great opportunity and I had my final presentation today.The presentations started once family members, faculty and staff, and other professors arrived and I was fourth to present. I gave my presentation and afterwards was relived that it was over. Also, congressman Joe Morelle made an appearance, which was exciting. We all got to meet with him and talk to him about the internship. Afterwards he gave a small speech and we took some pictures. Later we were all presented with our certificates of achievement. The internship was a unique and rewarding experience that will help me in the future. 

Today, I meet with Dr. Hornak and other undergraduate students to discuss aspects of the paper that was going to be published based on the results we obtained. We were able to successfully identify individual pigments in a paint mixture using the LFEPR instrumentation and our fitting algorithm. We created an outline and discussed the individual components of the paper. I also made some finishing touches to my presentation and presented to Dr. Hornak once more for some final suggestions. I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to present my work to faculty and friends tomorrow.

Today, all of the interns and I conducted a practice run of our presentations. We all presented to each other and to some of the faculty including Joe Pow. The other faculty and Joe all gave feedback on each of our presentations and provided some suggestions for improvement. I spent the rest of the day making changes and improving my presentation.

Today, I continued working on my presentation and discussed some of the aspects/slides with Dr.Hornak. I finished the draft of my presentation and presented to Dr.Hornack. He provided some insightful critics that I worked on making to the presentation. I also took many pictures of instrumentation and other equipment to be used for the presentation.

Today, I made some final adjustments to the results and formatted a display/table so I could use it for my presentation and for other publications. I also worked on my presentation and went through the tasks and objectives that I did over the last few weeks.

Today, I worked on my presentation for the most part. I did some work with the fitting algorithm as well. I started to formula my outline into a presentation. I found various images and received some from Dr.Hornack as well. I revised some the work I conducted over the last few weeks and tried to figure out the best way to explain some of the instruments and concepts that I used to work on my experiment.

Today, I added some finishing touches to the chart I was creating for the results. I also organized all of the data so that later on they would be more easily accessible. I started reading up on some academic journals as well. Dr. Hornack informed me that I need to start looking for some journals related to MRI and keep a list. So I began forming a list of some related journals.

Today, I worked I cleaning up some of the data from the past few weeks. I organized the data from each of the mixture sets and found the averages for them. Then I ran them through the fitting algorithm. Next I composed a chart to display the results that I had gotten. I used a color scheme to differentiate the correct results that were obtained and some of the minor error percentages.

Today, I continued working on mixture 16 which consisted of Egyptian Blue and Han blue. I worked on the placement of mixture 16 and compiled that data. I also did some comparative analysis between this mixture and the rest of the swatches. After I ran the mixture through the fitting algorithm and made some adjustments.By doing placement techniques we were able to obtain better results.

Today, I worked on mixture 16 which consisted of Egyptian Blue and Han blue. Compared to some of the other samples this mixture had odd results. After analysis and using the algorithm the fit was not as actuate as we had hoped. So we discussed possible errors and possibilities for the occurrence. I decided to adjust the placement a few times to see if that would cause any changes in the results as the placement may not have been good. So  for the remainder of the day I began working on the placement idea of mixture 16 and compiling that data.

Today, we had a normal meeting in the morning. Afterwards I did some analysis on mixture 14 which was composed of blue vitriol and rhodochrosite. The first test run of mix 14 on the mouse was unsuccessful however I realized we had made a mistake and had to fix it. The mouse was overheating so I continued to use the fan and the placement of the mix was improved. As a result we had fixed the issue and managed to obtained better results for mix 14.

Today, I got to attend the undergraduate research symposium. This is where RIT student have the opportunity to present their research and innovative ideas. I got to go and see various posters and presentation that were interesting. Specifically I went to some of the computer science, engineering, and business presentations. In addition, I got to see my name on one of the posters as supported one of the unergaruate students in my lab. I worked data management as well.
